- Is there a way to embed animated GIF files into either the AniGif or enhanced AniGif controls? I would like to have the graphic files embedded into my compiled application so that I don't have to include the graphic files as separate entities.
Yes. Both ActiveX controls, support embedded graphics. For more information, please read the Filename property topic in each Help file.
By setting the Filename property of the control, at design time, the control stores a copy of the graphic internally, so it is not needed to be present when the application is compiled. The Filename property must be set to a valid full file path or a filename e.g "test.gif" if the file resides in the application's directory.

- Will AniGif control work on Windows XP?

They support:
Windows 95/98/98SE/ME/NT/2000/XP

- I was wondering what the resolution is for the AniGif control.
AniGif and PictureBoxEx ActiveX controls display images at the current resolution of the screen, as they use DCs compatible with the Desktop. So they always use the best resolution the user can see.

- I tested AniGif ActiveX control on an animated GIF which had loops set to "1," but your control said "-1" (infinite?).
GIF's animation looping property was set in Jasc Animation Shop, v2.01.
Some applications return Loop = 1 if they do not find a specific Loop value set in the Gif file. According the GIF specifications, if the Loop is not set in the file, then it is considered = -1 which means "infinite". AniGif follows this order and loops them continuously in this case.

- I checked the GifLoops property of my animated file and it's 20. Is there a way I can lower this value?
Although the control returns how many times the animation will play in the GifLoops property, it is not advised to alter these properties of the file.
As this version of the control does not export the altered GIF file, the new value will be used only to display the loaded file with the new properties.

- We are doing ASP development and like to know if FolderView activex control could be used in this development platform.
FolderView activex control can be easily used in ASP development platform.

- Evaluating the demo VB sample, I see that works just fine, but when i try to add the OCX to another project I get an error.
Notice that FolderView activex control needs the SHF_Full.tlb type library to run. In the VB sample, the library is present in the same directory and the control finds it and uses it. If you place the OCX file in another directory, then you need to register the SHF_Full.tlb file in the system, in order the control to find it, otherwise you will get an error.

- Is the Enhanced Thumbnailer compatible with the lite version (up to 3.1) of the control?
No. In order to use the new enhanced version (4.0 or newer), you have to re-write code for the control as it exposes many new properties and functions and many old ones have been altered.
[Top]

- When I call the AddItem method to add a thumbnail, although the ItemAdd event is raised and the function returns "TRUE", the thumbnail does not appear on screen. What could I been making wrong?
Just call the control's DrawItems method when you wish the manually added items to be displayed.
This is by design, in order to allow the user to control if the added items will be displayed as soon as they are added, by calling the DrawItem method immediately after the AddItem method returns, or if they will be displayed once after all items have been successfully added.
If you try to resize Thumbnailer after an item is added with the AddItem method, you will see that this will cause it to be displayed although you never called the DrawItems method, as it is automatically called by the control when it is resized

- It appears that the task bar text feature has erased the AM/PM indication on my system. How can I reset this to once again get the AM/PM feature back?
This issue has been fixed in Total Control version 2.0.
The easy way to fix it, is to open the Control Panel and click the International settings icon. Then click the "Time" tab and notice that the values for the PM and AM symbols has been changed. Reset these values manually to get the symbols back.
The hard way is to tweak the registry. Please use the Backsys add-in for Total Control or any other software to make a recent backup of the Registry before you go on.
Open the registry editor (Go Start button/Run, type regedit and hit OK). Navigate to the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International and at the right pane of the editor you will find two values named s1159 and s2359. Delete these values and that was.
Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

- In the "Menus" panel, I used the option to hide the "Control Panel" and "Printers" submenus of the Start/Settings menu. Although it did work for the menus, these folders have been disappeared from "My Computer" as well. What is going wrong?
Nothing is going wrong. This behavior is by design for Windows. If you hide the menus, the Control Panel and Printers folders will not appear in "My Computer".

- I have used the "Icons" panel to change the icons for my drives. How do I get back the original ones?
Open the drive you wish to reset its icon and delete the file "Autorun.inf". In most cases this will work.

- The "Open" and "Explore" submenus have been disabled, in the menu that appears when I right click the Start button. How can I enable the menus again?
Usually, this happens if you have used Total Control or any other software, to hide drives in Explorer.
To fix it, start Total Control and go to the "Misc" panel. Check the "Fix Start button's context" option and apply the changes to fix the problem. This will also cause any hidden drives to be visible again.

- I have lost the Internet Explorer's window. Although its button exists in the taskbar, I can not see the I.E. nowhere. What is happening?
The Internet Explorer's window is probably off screen. Somehow, it has been created outside the visible part of the screen.
To fix it, start Total Control and go to the "Misc" panel. Check the "Reset I.E. window location" option and apply the changes to fix the problem. The next time, the I.E. window will be created with default coordinates inside the screen.

- In the "Deep" panel, I have used the "CD ROM max speed" option, to set the speed for my CD ROM to 24x. Why the CD ROM section in the System applet, declares my device as 4x?
The CD ROM properties section in the System applet, found in the Control Panel, is restricted to show the 4x as the maximum value. If Total Control shows that this is set to 24x, then this setting has been applied successfully.

- I have used the Winsec add-in to hide the Tray icons in the Taskbar. Why these icons become visible again, if I try to resize the Taskbar?
The Systray (Tray icons) is a window, as most Windows elements. What really the Winsec add-in does, when you hide the "Tray icons" is to destroy this window. When trying to resize or move the taskbar, Windows recreate the Systray window, so it becomes visible again.

- Why after I rebuild the icons cache in the Foldicons add-in, my Explorer icons are in a mess?
This is usual if you use this function for some times. Restart Windows and all the icons will be restored.

- Why I get a "Special folder" message when I try to change the icon for my History folder, in Foldicons?
Foldicons is designed to customize the icon for every folder in Explorer, but not the "Special" ones. The History folder is a special folder, so its icon can not be customized with the Foldicons add-in.
You can customize the icon for all the Windows' special folders with Total Control in the "Icons" panel.

- I wanted to know if your activex controls have a free evaluation period. I would like to try before I buy.
Feel free to try our products as long as you wish. There is no evaluation period for them. The unregistered version of a component just shows an about box each time the control starts. This is the only limitation.

- Are your ActiveX controls royalty-free and run-time license-fee free?
Does this mean that if I'm the only developer using the control I pay only for a single user licence?
All our components are royalty-free and run-time license-fee free.
If you are the only developer using the component in your projects you will pay only the cost of a single user licence.

- Do I have to include the relevant .ocx file into the setup of my application?
Of course you should include the OCX file in your setup. You will distribute it as it is and not trying to compile it inside an EXE file.
If you use the VB Package and Deployment wizard, will include it automatically in the setup for you.

- We are about to distribute our application to various customers. What needs to be done on the customer PC's for them to be able to use our application which contains your control?
To allow your customers to run an application that uses one of our components, you must first copy the appropriate .ocx file to their PC and then register the .ocx file. If you use an installer to install the app, it will be done automatically (VB installer is OK), otherwise you have to do it manually.
